ALISTAIR
BROWNLEE
Final year sports science student, Alistair Brownlee performed superbly in the Beijing Olympic Men's Triathlon to finish in 12th place as the top British athlete. Brownlee was in the lead group throughout the three disciplines, but faded in the last few kilometres as his early efforts took their toll. The gold medal was won by Jan Frodeno from Germany.
Afterwards Brownlee said he was gutted not to have won medal. "Yes I came here for experience, but I'm absolutely gutted because I also came here to win a medal," he said. "I was having the run of my life, but then I just couldn't keep with it. "Hopefully a bit more maturity and experience will make the difference and I'll be up there in the medals next time."
My Olympic Experience - one month on!
September 2008
The Olympics was without doubt as incredible an experience as I had been told it would be, but it was also one of the toughest I have experienced. There is no escaping the feeling that you are there to win a medal and in coming anywhere outside the medals I had failed. In the village without a medal you are just one of the 10,000 other athletes. The Olympics is an extremely rare experience so I didn't let this stop me from having a good time.
I was initially gutted to be so close to an Olympic medal and miss out. Although it slowly dawned upon me that I had previously never managed to stay with the leaders beyond 3km of the run and that in this race led out the field for 7km...and it was in the Olympic Games!

I've arrived at Training Camp - 5th August 2008
I have been at holding camp for a week now. We are based in Jeju, an island of the coast of Korea. Im here for a total of 18 days on our holding camp before leaving for Beijing. Its very hot and humid, which is not so good but it is why I am here!
The weather and time difference took a bit of getting used to but I think I have finally gotthere. It is a very interesting place and I rode to over 1000m up a Volcano yesterday! I feel I have settled in well and am now doing some final hard days of training before I start easing down. I fly into Beijing on Thursday and the race is only four days afterwards.
Alistair finished 12th the Men's Triathlon event on Tuesday 19th August. Please click here to watch race highlights
